Cancer Treatment Procedures at Safe Harbor Animal Hospital
Examination and Testing
The staff at Safe Harbor Animal Hospital in Pensacola, Florida, work closely with you and your vet to provide the best diagnosis and treatment. When you first visit our hospital, our board-certified oncologists will review your animal’s history and perform a thorough examination. Based on the findings, we make recommendations for further testing or develop appropriate treatment plans. Our ultrasound and radiology capabilities come in handy at this point. They help establish whether the disease has already spread to other parts of the body.
When it comes to treating pet cancer, we use chemotherapy or surgery. These methods are either used independently or in combination. The type of cancer diagnosed will largely determine the specific treatment protocol. If surgery is the only feasible therapy, it will be used to remove as much of cancer as possible physically. However, chemotherapy may sometimes be applied before the initial treatment (neoadjuvant); this helps to reduce the size of an existing tumor. On the other hand, adjuvant chemotherapy may be used to kill the remaining cancer cells and suppress secondary tumor formation.
During treatment, we believe there’s no better complementary medicine than compassion. Our friendly support team works with you every step of the way, providing with the support and confidence you need to help your pet live a longer, healthier, and happier life.
